The current Platen Bar Assembly manufactured by Kimwood has been used successfully by a wide variety of customers over several decades. Recently, however, in response to customer suggestions, SIA Abrasives has partnered with Kimwood to market an improved design that has demonstrated in initial field tests to be much faster and easier to replace the smoothing surface, more economical to the end user while providing an improved sanding finish. The new design incorporates a Platen Base Bar Assembly that stays in place once installed. The new aluminum Platen Base Bar will give you years of maintenance free use since they are designed to stay in place. The new Platen Base Bar is designed to use a special insert, which takes the place of the old Maple, Masonite or Lebonite Strips. These new inserts can literally be changed out in seconds thus eliminating the tedious process of stapling and rebuilding tack strips altogether. Together with the inexpensive inserts, this new design allows even a novice sander operator or maintenance person to replace platen inserts on every Platen Bar in just a few minutes thus allowing your sander to run longer with less down time. Expected life on each insert is approximately the same as current Kimwood manufactured Platen Bar. The inserts are available in a variety of combinations to fit your specific application and customer requirements. This Platen Bar Retrofit is available for Kimwood Smithway, Control Master, Crossbelt, Panel Master, American Series, and Master Series sanders.
