Kimwood has recently developed a Retrofit Kit for eliminating the problems of Shear and Hinge Pins working loose on Kimwood Hogs.

Many Hog owners have experienced Shear and/or Hinge Pin retainer plate bolts coming loose or shearing off. Another problem is the welds on the retainer plate can crack and allow the plate to separate from the pin. Either of these problems can allow the pin to eventually begin to move axially and possibly fall out.

To solve this problem, Kimwood designed a method of retaining the Shear and Hinge Pins that continues to use the existing Pin design but secures the retaining plate and Pin in a completely different way. An additional benefit of this design is that it provides increased support for Grate Hinge Pins. This minimizes enlargement of the Pin holes that can occur over time. This new design has been incorporated into new Hogs that have been built and retrofitted to existing Hogs. The new design has successfully been field tested for several years.

The complete Retrofit includes all the necessary support blocks, retainer plates and hardware. Replacement Shear and Hinge pins are not included but can be ordered separately. The support blocks and retainer plates are located at the existing Shear Pin locations and welded directly to the Hog case. Following that, a number of 1/2"-13 UNC holes will need to be drilled and tapped. Approximate in-field installation time for the complete kit varies depending on equipment and manpower available. Separate Kits for individual Case Hinge Pins, Anvil Hinge Pins (not pictured below), Grate Hinge Pins or Shear Pins are also available.
